Fatima Camara Souare is a Guinean American fashion designer and illustrator based in NJ. Her fascination with African styling traditions inspired her to create one of a kind products like handpainted afro picks, braided shorts and leather headwraps. She holds a BFA in Apparel Design from Rhode Island School of Design.

Fall 2023, Fatima launches her eponymous label Fatima C. Souare. The debut collection features faux leather headwear. An avant-garde take on the coveted African headwrap, reflective of the hard and softness of femininity.

EPIC READS COSTUME CHALLENGE - RED QUEEN

Fatima was selected by publishing company Harper Collins to design a costume inspired by a character from the book Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. The design premiered on their Youtube channel Epic Reads in 2017.

Launched in 2015. Inspired by the roles and courage of indigenous African Queens. The essence, roles and courage of indigenous African Queens sets the foundation of the Hello Queen brand. With this in mind, Hello Queen aims to uplift, empower and motivate women to be better versions of themselves. Hello Queen carries accessories and prints that represent power and sisterhood.

Hello Queen is currently sold on Etsy marketplace with a 5 star rating. The top selling products have been the handpainted Afro Picks.

Hello Queen has been featured on Afro Punk and has been a vender at the Index Art & Music Festival and No Young Queens Left Behind Fundraiser.

SHEA: SPRING/SUMMER 14’

Inspired by her mother’s salon “Fatima African Hair Braiding Center”, Shea embodies the new generation of the children of African immigrants. Full of life, vibrancy and optimism as they take in the pop culture around them while maintaining their roots. The collection incorporates weaving, hair braiding, wax prints, custom digital prints and graphic prints.

While at AfroPunk Festival 2014, Fatima was selected to model for Vogue photographer Awol Erizku Hair Portaits series. She was photographed in the Sene’ jacket from the collection.

Zen Magazine Africa featured the collection in their November 2014 editorial. The collection was reposted and shared on various online publications.
